There are many different ways to get your own website;
here's how Creation Sports compares: All of the prices
below are real and have been taken from the websites
of companies found on the first 2 pages of a typical
Google search
Websites where you pay a designer
to create it from scratch
Occasionally you will see some
companies offer to create your site for a flat rate
fee, such as £750, but
most web designers will charge you for the number of
pages your site contains. For example, for some companies
prices start from £500 depending on the complexity
of design, while with others, you can expect to pay £200
for a website with just 3 pages, 6 pages from £300,
or 12 pages from £450.
However, this can vary greatly
and we found a company that offers just 1 page for £665, 6 pages for £990
and 8 pages for over £1000! Other companies we
have come across offer 2 pages for £299, 4 pages
for £599, 10 pages for £899, and even 20
pages for £1799.
As you can see, if you are a
small business and money is tight, this is not exactly
an affordable option, and that's without considering
the additional costs. Examples of extra costs include;
hosting on the Internet, which is usually charged at
around £36 per year, the
addition of extra pages for £50 - £160 each,
or extra e-mail accounts £9 each, e-commerce for £499,
plus a whole host of other things. On top of this, any
maintenance, future updates or additional changes to
your website will be an extra charge, typically adding
another £150 per update.
Templates you can buy then adjust to your needs
Unless you have a particular idea about the way you
want your site to look, templates can be a very good
alternative, especially for people who don't want to
pay a designer several hundred pounds just to come up
with a new idea. In fact, when pushed, many people are
not too concerned about the way their site is laid out,
so long as the finished product suits the look, feel
and needs of their business.
A lot of companies offer a wide
range of templates (averaging around £35 each) that you can buy, download, and
then adjust to your needs. But beware, prices vary greatly
and we have seen some companies offering templates for
as much as £350 each, and you still have to do
all the work yourself. This option of course is only
suitable if you have the right software, knowledge, skills
and time needed to adjust the template design and keep
it maintained.
Template websites that a designer will adjust to
your needs and also take care of future maintenance and updates
This very unique option is the one being offered by
Creation Sports. Since it is based around a fully customisable
template, your site can be adjusted and hosted very quickly,
and because trained web designers are working on it,
your site will look unique and professional.
Plus, you do not need any special software or skills
to customise your site since we will guide you effortlessly
through the design process. Your site comes with 4 pages
that can be written by you and updated with new text
on a monthly basis at no extra charge.
Your site will also have hundreds of other pages, both
ones viewable by your visitors and others in the private
password protected section that are viewable only by
you.
We know small businesses can
find it hard to raise the money normally needed to
pay a web designer so, with Creation Sports, there
are no set up fees or large upfront costs, just a small
monthly rental of £30 - £35,
spread over 1 or 2 years, to cover the maintenance and
updates that are made to your site every month as standard.
While we will update you site every month at no extra
cost, additional pages written by you can be added for
just £35 each.

OPTION 4 - Websites you create yourself from scratch
Because you are doing all of
the work yourself this is essentially a free option.
However, in order to do this you will need the right
software, such as Microsoft FrontPage or Dreamweaver,
(about £320 including
VAT) to name just two.
Then of course you need to learn how to use them well
enough that your website doesn't end up looking homemade
or amateur. Visitors will often judge the quality of
your business based upon the standard of your website.
In addition, the stock photography
that many people display on their sites also has to
be bought. You can expect to pay around £100 - £500
for the copywrite of each picture you want to use.
Then, on top of this you also need to find the time
to keep your site maintained and updated so that customers
want to come back.
Then there are other fees like
hosting which can be anything from £60 - £300
not to mention the cost of your time to learn and design
your website. This is time when you could be earning.
Although this is the lowest cost option, it is not
always suitable for those who own busy small businesses
or do not understand HTML. |
